All About Save the Date Cards
Save the Date Cards are sent out before the wedding invitations to inform your guests of your upcoming wedding so that they can keep the date free to attend. They are especially needed if many of your guests are traveling from out of town to your wedding, your wedding takes place on or around a holiday, or if you are planning a destination wedding.
They are generally sent at least 4-6 months prior to your wedding . For seasonally busy and tourist locations or during holidays it is best to send them a little earlier if possible. Your guests will then have enough time to make all the necessary arrangements needed to be a part of your special celebration and may even extend it into a vacation of their own.
Here are some guidelines on what your cards should have printed on them...
Name of the Bride and Groom to Be
The Date of wedding
The Location where the wedding will take place (province, state)
A line saying "Invitation to follow", "Invitation and details to follow
If you have a wedding website you can also include that on the Save the Dates.
If you are planning a destination wedding we recommend providing your guests with additional information to help them plan their travel arrangements such as airline, car rental, hotel, information on things to see and do in the area and surrounding areas, special events, theatrical shows etc. Hotels and resorts will often offer group discounts for wedding attendants and reserve a block of rooms for expected guests.
