OUTDOOR WEDDINGS

There is nothing more romantic than the sound of soft waves behind you as you say your wedding vows or the sun setting behind you when you are pronounced man and wife. Many couples choose to have their ceremony and/or reception outdoors during the summertime. Here are some great outdoor ideas plus some favor ideas that can add a special touch to your outdoor wedding.

A Garden Wedding

The garden of the hotel or banquet hall where your reception will be held or can be the perfect place to get married. The number one perk of having a wedding in a garden is that you do not need the florist to make the extra floral decorations for the ceremony site and you can keep your wedding décor to a minimum. This leaves room in your budget for other special extras like custom garden themed ceremony programs. Many hotel and banquet hall reception sites offer gardens with gazebos, ponds, and the sweet scent of beautiful flowers in bloom this time of year!

For beautiful wedding ceremony programs try creating a booklet style program incorporating pressed flowers on the cover. A great favour idea for a garden theme is to package up some colourful sweets or candies in a box with a butterfly, grass, branch or flower pattern imprinted on the box. This will give your favours a customized look and relate back to your garden theme. Alternatively, fill a cellophane bag with wildflower seeds and close the package with a pressed flower seal for an outdoor natural look. For do-it-yourself centerpieces consider hanging the cellophane bags on branches that have been placed in a container. These are easy to assemble with some help from your bridesmaids and can be really effective.

A Beach Wedding

There is nothing like the sand between your toes, the warm sun hitting your face crashing of the water as you say “I do.” Beach weddings can be casual so you can go ahead and wear that wedding dress on the sand and go barefoot underneath it all!

For beach wedding favours we suggest filling clear tubes with a few small shells and some sand and another tube with bath oils. Tie them together using some ribbon or wraphia for a casual but creative feel. Another idea is to give away chocolates packaged in clear cellophane bags in the shape of seashells. These can be found at your local chocolate suppliers and you can even special order them in specific flavours. If you look around, it can also be quite easy to find candles related to a beach theme, either in the shape of a shell or starfish. Try packaging some of these candles or tealights in a box as a giveaway. For inexpensive centerpieces, try using a simple lantern with candles and a few small seashells or sand dollars scattered around.

Wedding at a National Park

Nothing could be more majestic to your guests than the grand natural vistas of picturesque mountain peaks and valleys that most of the National Parks have to offer. Once again, the décor should be kept to a minimum since Mother Nature is at her best in a National Park, which will also be a nice break to you in regards to your budget.

For favour ideas keep to the natural look by using items like pinecones and branches found in the surroundings to decorate. For your reception, decorate your tables with centerpieces of wildflowers or pinecones placed in clear vases surrounded by candles. Saving some of your budget on inexpensive centerpieces can allow room in your budget for live music while you are walking down the isle. Another unique idea is to name each table after a type of bird found in the region and have picture of that bird printed on the table name card. Make sure to provide your guests with information, during the ceremony, on the park so they can make the most of their visit and explore before the reception.
